Welcome to the Sioux Scout website
The Sioux Scout website is a place to find fun and informative content ranging from the outdoors in general, hiking & camping on one end, and self reliance & preparedness on the other. The goal is to show just how much those two cultures have in common. A Prepper can learn a lot from a Hiker and vise versa.

We are all about having a positive focused mindset, having the right gear and the know how to work the two together for whatever adventure lays ahead.

My 7.62 X 39 AR-15 is About to Become Reality

Back in November 2013, I ended up buying a polymer AR-15 lower. Wasn't really looking for one, but came across a good deal and decided to give it a try. I bought it mainly as a curiosity plus I want to see how the polymer lower compared to my AR-15 with a forged aluminum lower.

Since I was already going against the grain with the poly lower, I figured I'd add more to the fun by ordering an upper chambered in 7.62 X 39. There are several reasons why I went with the AK caliber, and I will address those in more detail in another post.

After a lengthy search, I found a nice deal online and place my order. Unfortunately, the manufacturer sent me an email the next day stating their current backlog would put my order out a few months and they asked me if I was willing to wait. Since it was a good price and I liked the way the got back to me right away, I told them I didn't mind.

Now I just could leave that lower assembly set there, so I bought a DPMS 5.56 upper assembly from Brownells. While I've only put a few hundred rounds down range, I've been very happy with this AR. I'm not ready to give it a detailed review yet, but I have had zero issues so far.

Then yesterday I was made a little happier when I received this email:
We are contacting you to let you know we are ready to build and ship  your above referenced order. Please reply to Margaret, (Margaret@xxxx.com or call our office @ xxx-xxx-xxxx) to verify your order (you have not moved, you still want the order, and we can use the credit card on file). Or if you have any questions about your order feel free to contact us, have a wonderful day!

Thank you for your patience.
Margaret
I quickly responded with a thanks for the update, please proceed reply. Within an hour received a second email that said:
Your card has been charged, and your order has been placed on the bench to be made, and that can take 3- 5 business days to make, when they finish making it, your order then goes to shipping and shipping will package it and ship it out. Shipping will email you a copy of your order along with the date it shipped out and a tracking number so you will be able to track your order.

Margaret
Now that was a great start to the day to say the least. Then as I was finishing up at work this afternoon, I got another email from the manufacturer stating the upper receiver assembly was complete, inspected and was shipping. Included in the email was the UPS tracking number.

Now I doubt they didn't build the upper in a day and a half. I'm sure production told the customer service people that they had one almost done, so they contacted the next person on the backlog list. If I told them I no longer wanted it, the same email would have gone out to the next person. But it is still a great way to do business in my opinion.

Hopefully the manufacturer's gunsmiths are as good as their customer service. If they are, I should be getting a nice upper receiver delivered soon.
