Welcome to the Sioux Scout website

Welcome to the Sioux Scout website
The Sioux Scout website is a place to find fun and informative content ranging from the outdoors in general, hiking & camping on one end, and self reliance & preparedness on the other. The goal is to show just how much those two cultures have in common. A Prepper can learn a lot from a Hiker and vise versa.

We are all about having a positive focused mindset, having the right gear and the know how to work the two together for whatever adventure lays ahead.

National Concealed Carry Permit?

Would be nice to be able to travel state to state and not have to worry about becoming the next Shaneen Allen, because we drove into the wrong state with a concealed handgun. On the surface, a National Concealed Carry Permit makes since. With the explosion of states allowing concealed carry over the past few years, it seems possible.

But is it possible?
Personally, I don't see it happening from the Federal level down. I think the best we will ever see is more States working together without the Federal Government's involvement (the way it should be for this and almost all maters).

It could be done faster with State Governments working with the NRA and other groups to come up with standardized requirements to attain and maintain a CPL. For example, one way would be if all States agreed to adopt Utah's system.

I don't see a 100% reciprocity Nationwide, due to States like California and New York. But with a lot of effort from the ground up, I could see maybe a 80% reciprocity.

But is it a good idea?
I can see the concern of having it controlled at the Federal level. Federal regulations for concealed carry could change with a stroke of a President's pen via Executive Order or even a Bureaucrat paper pusher with the ATFE or other entity.

Increase fees to above a normal person could afford, long waiting periods, caliber & capacity limits, insanely strict training requirements, etc. are all real possibilities. Just like the $200 tax stamp and 6 month to a year's wait for NFA items keeps many from buying a SBR or suppressor, similar red tape could limit people's ability to obtain a concealed carry permit.

What do you think? Is it possible? Is it even a good idea?
