Welcome to the Sioux Scout website

Welcome to the Sioux Scout website
The Sioux Scout website is a place to find fun and informative content ranging from the outdoors in general, hiking & camping on one end, and self reliance & preparedness on the other. The goal is to show just how much those two cultures have in common. A Prepper can learn a lot from a Hiker and vise versa.

We are all about having a positive focused mindset, having the right gear and the know how to work the two together for whatever adventure lays ahead.

CCW is a Journey of Balance

Some tips for someone just starting that journey from someone relatively new to it himself.

There is no one size fits all answer for much regarding concealed carry. It is truly a game of trial and error, adapting, and trying to find a balance. Finding this balance involves compromise and pushing one’s comfort and skill levels. Then once you find a balance; comfort and skill levels increase and you look to improve. Then the process continues with by experimenting with new variables and options.

The handgun style and size, caliber, holster style, holster position; these and many more variables factor into the balance you must find that suits your needs best. You need to balance quick access, discreet carry with comfort into your carry style. You find the perfect blend of power, controllability, capacity, and availability in your ammunition choice. With your firearm and holster, use must blend all of that with safety, ease of use and durability.

Combine that peoples bodies type, budgets (this stuff ain’t free you know), skills, physicals strengths, wardrobes are all different; it can be a daunting task for someone new to simply ask others for their opinion. When someone starts researching the topic, besides the physical variables, they need to filter through the personal preferences.

First, of course there’s the preference of the brand and model of gun. Then your choice of caliber, carry style and position, brand and style of holster, brand and type of ammunition.  For each person you ask, there is a good chance you’ll get a very different answer on what is the best. The trick is to find what’s best for you.

For some the trial and error process is relatively short. For others is take time. What has helped me so far was doing a ton of research up front. Some things I would suggest you try are discuss this subject with friends who carry, spend time at a gun club or range. And don’t forget the internet is your friend. YouTube, blogs, and forums have a ton of information.

There is way, way too much to discuss on how to find your personal balance. There is an entire industry devoted to that. But below I will link some YouTube channels I’ve found very useful for me. Be sure to search each channel for topics like EDC, CCW, holsters, etc.

In Fact, these are some pretty good all-around channels for firearm & gear reviews, pro 2nd Amendment, shooting advice, and humor. Except James Yeager, he had his since of humor removed to make room for more pain tolerance.

I think I can easily turn this topic into a regular series on the blog, which I plan to do. There is a ton of stuff that can be discussed in great detail.

In case you are curious to what I found that works well for me:
Firearm: Glock model 32 (with Trijicon night sights)
Ammo: Underwood JHP
Holster: Crossbreed Supertuck
Position: about 3:30
