If you are not familiar with Massad Ayoob, it would be worth your time to read some of his writings on personal defense.

I have recently read his book, The Gun Digest Book of Concealed Carry and I highly recommend you give it a read if you are considering carrying a concealed handgun. I also recommend it anyone who already carries. Lot of great information in it.
