Welcome to the Sioux Scout website
The Sioux Scout website is a place to find fun and informative content ranging from the outdoors in general, hiking & camping on one end, and self reliance & preparedness on the other. The goal is to show just how much those two cultures have in common. A Prepper can learn a lot from a Hiker and vise versa.

We are all about having a positive focused mindset, having the right gear and the know how to work the two together for whatever adventure lays ahead.

Thoughts on "Gun range aims to be the first with a liquor license in Oklahoma"

In some firearm forums, and elsewhere I'm sure, there is a lot of talk about a gun range in Oklahoma applying for a liquor license. Here is a link to a news article on it.

I've seen this topic of alcohol being served at a range discussed and the similar topic of allowing CCW were alcohol is served. Good topic, but it always makes me laugh when the same people who will argue they shouldn't required additional training to carry a gun or other restraints on their rights freak out at the idea of alcohol even being near a firearm.

All the gun clubs in my area serve beer. If you drink, you're done shooting for the day. Pretty simple concept. Both clubs I belong to having been serving beer since at least the 1950's with no problems. whatsoever. Just takes common sense and responsibility.

Common sense and responsibility, doesn't that go hand in hand with gun ownership and especially being an Armed Citizen in the first place? All the people worried about a guy sneaking in a drink at the club before he steps up to the line. What's keeping the guy from stopping for happy hour before going to the range in the first place?

The other reasoning against serving alcohol at a gun club I've often seen is the possibility if arguments escalating  to the point where gunfire is exchanged. I just don't think ordinary people are only two drinks away from being killers. I've seen plenty of screaming matches at gun clubs that served alcohol, especially on trap league nights. Serious trap shooters can really get angry when there rival beats them head to head during league. Never once did I fear someone was going to get shot.

Don't get me wrong it is something to keep an eye on for liability reasons alone. But the range or club is already responsible for safety, making sure no one drinks before they shoot goes in line with all the rest.

I guess it's just a strange idea for people who haven't been around it. I have to remember I live in the northwoods of Wisconsin.
