Welcome to the Sioux Scout website
The Sioux Scout website is a place to find fun and informative content ranging from the outdoors in general, hiking & camping on one end, and self reliance & preparedness on the other. The goal is to show just how much those two cultures have in common. A Prepper can learn a lot from a Hiker and vise versa.

We are all about having a positive focused mindset, having the right gear and the know how to work the two together for whatever adventure lays ahead.

There Are Backyard Ranges, and There is This

I was invited to my neighbor’s house for a little Labor Day Weekend get together. Besides the normal gathering of friends and family with food and drink, we did some shooting on their backyard range.

While a backyard shooting range may be a thing of envy by most shooters who live within city limits, out here in the country they are fairly common. On a summer weekend in my neck of the woods one can hear gunfire all directions.

Most people simply have a mound of dirt that they can shoot a pistol at or sight in their deer rifle from 100 yards away. Others have a pretty impressive setup, with multiple targets at different ranges. But my neighbor’s has something a bit more impressive. They have a trap range.

I don’t mean they have a hand thrower for clay pigeons and a nice field to throw them in. I mean they have an ATA regulation trap range, complete with handicap yardage lanes and a voice activated thrower. It is quite the set up to say the least.

To say my neighbors are avid trap shooter would be an understatement. They both shoot multiple leagues and travel for shoot and tournaments. Both are top shooter at the clubs they belong to. They are pretty serious trap shooters; which you would expect if they are willing to spend the thousands of dollars on dirt work and cement.

The roof is raised on the trap house for loading the thrower for the next round,at this back yard trap range.

Shooters getting ready for a round of trap while spectators relax behind them.

Two shooter take aim in a one on one grudge match.

The owners even have two large est up tables and and several gun racks for their guest to use.

Not only do the owners of this back yard trap range have the customary 25 straight patch for a perfect score, they have a patch for the oh so close 24. But each guest can only be rewarded the 24 patch once.

I consider myself to be pretty lucky to live where I live. It is a great part of the country to be. But now that my neighbor's a mile down the road have this set up, and the invite me over every once it a while, I like living here even more.
