The Walther PPS has been on the market since 2007, Ruger's LC9 since 2008 and the ever popular Smith & Wesson Shield on the market since 2012. Since that time all the Glock Fanboys and others, but mostly the Fanboys, have been waiting for Glock to enter the niche of pocket sized 9mm self defense pistols.
Last year at SHOT Show everybody was all excited that Glock had a big announcement. Then all the pent up hype went sour when the Glock 9mm single stack
Then over the summer, suddenly the .380 round became much more potent as viable defensive option. Well, at least on some of the Glock dominated web forums. Even with the success of the Glock 42, the fabled 9mm single stack Glock was just a rainbow farting unicorn, haunting the dreams of people with a big old clunky Glock 19 resting on their nightstands.
The same thing repeated itself this year at SHOT Show with a extra scoop of disappointment when new Glocks were introduced, including the 10mm G40. Which by the way I think I'm the only one who is interested in.What can I say, I do have a weakness for 10mm.
But this year is different!
Now just in time for the NRA Annual Meeting, the long awaited Glock 43 is coming to a LGS near you. Well, at least a waiting list for one. Many, many in the firearm culture are thrilled or at least interested in getting their paws on the latest offering from Glock. But some grumpy frumpy's are already making a point to let others know in the comments and forums around the web that they are not interested. Many people are saying things such as "too little, too late" or "S&W already has the market cornered with the Shield" or something along those lines. And there is some logic to the remarks about the Shield being popular. Many people gave up waiting for Glock to enter the market and buying a Shield, or similar single stack 9mm.
But they either forget or don't realize that even if everybody who is currently interested in having a single stack 9mm already has a Shield, it doesn't mean the market has dried up. Few people who buy a gun for carry keeps the same one for the rest of their life. Not to mention everyday new people enter the market. You really can't be late to the party when the party never ends.
I'm sure half the Glock fanboys who've been claiming Glock's too late for them have already drafts a gunbroker ad for their Shield and have laid down a deposit for the G43 at the local LGS.
As for this Glock fanboy, I still have no plans on getting one. I admit the thought has crossed my mind more than once about getting a G42 or a G43 just to have one. But I just don't see it happening anytime soon. I have been and still am one of the oddballs out there who really like the Walther PPS. Besides, I guess I'm one of those Glock fanboy purest who think a Glock is not a Glock, unless it's a double stacked block.
