I few weeks ago I stopped by a local sporting goods store. When I walked in I immediately noticed that all the rifles and shotguns that were normally on the display rack and the handguns that were normally in the display cases under the counter were missing. Of course I had to ask why. The staff informed me that they were in the middle of surprise audit by the ATF. Recently since our Congress has not made a move to introduce more gun control legislation, due in part to them actually listening to their constituents, our President has decided to thumb his nose at our Constitution via Executive Order. Part of his orders was to empower the ATF more on gun control. Now this is really nothing new. The ATF has a long history of making gun stores and other FFL holders jump through an ever increasingly complicated sea of paperwork, red tape and changing rulings and regulations.
While this was not the first time I've witnessed a FFL holder be audited or in other ways hassled by the ATF. Yet I've never seen a liquor store, gas station, grocery store, chain store or convenience store have their inventory of beer, whine, liquor, or cigarettes taken off the shelf due to a paperwork checkup by the ATF. I don't recall a President or a Congress granting the ATF more authority to regulate alcohol or tobacco manufacturers or sellers in the name of public safety or health. No common sense regulation to deal with drunk driving or lung cancer.
I think it's time to give the ATF a better name. One that's more up front and less misleading. I think is should be renamed to something along the lines of "BSAI" the Bureau of Second Amendment Infringement.
